There have now been four confirmed cases of rabies in New Hanover County in the past two weeks. On Sunday, Animal Control captured what neighbors off Wrightsville Ave. believed to be a rabid raccoon. That raccoon tested positive for the disease on Tuesday. Dr. Jean McNeal of New Hanover County Animal Control said that last time there were this many cases in the county was in the late nineties. She noted the importance of all pet owners to vaccinate their animals, to protect them from diseased wildlife. There will be a free rabies clinic on Saturday, March 21st from 1:00 to 3:00. It will be held at the Animal Control Facility, located at 180 Division Drive in New Hanover County.
