Raleigh school locked down

RALEIGH (AP) -- Officials have locked down a middle school in southeast Raleigh after a parent told police a student had a gun. Raleigh police officers and Wake County Sheriff's deputies began to search Ligon Middle School after receiving the tip around about 7:25 a.m. Wake County schools spokesman Chip Sudderth confirmed the "code red" lockdown but says he doesn't have any details. Police spokesman Jim Sughrue (Shuh-grew) told a Raleigh newspaper the situation appears be close to a resolution and parents should not be alarmed. A person who answered the phone at the school told the newspaper all students are in their classrooms with the doors locked and the lights out. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press.
