Raynor convicted, sent to prison in NC beach rapes

BOLIVIA -- Larry Raynor has been sentenced to at least 124 years in prison for the 2001 rape and kidnapping of two teenage girls vacationing at a North Carolina beach. The Wilmington Star-News reported Thursday a Brunswick County Superior Court jury convicted Larry Raynor in the crime at Ocean Isle Beach. Raynor says he'll appeal. Prosecutors say the girls were 15 and 16 when they were forced into a pickup truck and taken to a mobile home where they were raped. The women testified against Raynor, who didn't testify. His lawyers had asked that the case be dismissed because of insufficient evidence, but Judge Thomas Haigwood refused. Raynor was convicted of two counts of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of rape and four counts of first-degree sex offense. He still faces charges from 2005 involving a 13-year-old girl.
