Firefighters from our area weren't the only ones volunteering to help with the fire problems in South Carolina. Mike Thompson is a member of the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross. He volunteered to help those who had been evacuated from their homes and the crews working to put out the blazing fires. Thompson said it's the least he could do. “I know how much of a help it is for us to have folks come to our community from outside communities when we have a hurricane come and I wanted to return the favor.” The Red Cross volunteers will prepare a shelter in case it's needed for those who can't return to their home. Red Cross is also in contact with emergency officials to help provide anything they can to help in the firefighting efforts.
