Redistricting decision could come Thursday

The New Hanover County School Board has scheduled an interim meeting next week to talk about middle school redistricting. A spokesperson says it's possible the Board could make a decision on a final plan. The debate about redistricting has centered on whether to keep students in schools closer to home or to bus students around the county to help with socioeconomic diversity.

The meeting is Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Dale K. Spencer Building on South 15th Street in Wilmington.

Great location for school board & the county commissioners

Noone wants to leave their school. We now have a new school which is contaminated with arsenic, near a superfund site and near a plant (Titan) which will be spewing mercury into our air. Instead of a school site this sounds like a great site for prisoners who break the law not our children. This school was a bad idea from the beginning. I think the school board and the county commssioners should use it as their new offices, since it has 5 large conference rooms. I think our community would approve of this use instead of our children as their personal guinea pigs. No child should attend this school!!!

Why have students get up earlier, spend more time on buses, spend more money on fuel costs to drive by one, two or maybe even three different schools just to balance socioeconomic diversity. Sounds like b.s. to me.
