Local members of the National Association of Mental Illnesses worked to educate law enforcement Monday, on how to handle people with mental illness.

They also got a refresher on the local laws surrounding mental illness. Mental health experts said it is important to be able to recognize the signs. "They can be the eyes and ears and help connect them, help recognize what it is, and get them where they need to go," said Carolyn Craddock of Southeastern Mental Health.

Law enforcement will practice real life simulations during hands on training throughout the week.
