Riverfest artwork unveiled

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Today marked the unofficial kick-off of Riverfest 2010 with the unveiling of this year's festival artwork.

The theme for this year's Riverfest is "Preserving the River for Future Generations." Eleanor Davin is this year's artist.

Cape Fear Community College Marine Technology students, who benefit from the festival, were excited for the unveiling. Davin's motivation behind the artwork comes from a day she spent on the river aboard the Henrietta.

"It just so happens that a couple of years ago I took a riverboat cruise on the Henrietta, and it was a beautiful day, and I just started snapping pictures of the downtown riverfront and thought maybe one day I could use them in a painting," Davin said. "I saw the advertisement for the Riverfest artist and I just decided to use that background."

Davin included the CFCC's Marine Technology program's Research Vessel Dan Moore in her painting as well.
