Saffo, Padgett support convention center

READ MORE: Saffo, Padgett support convention center
WILMINGTON -- The two definite decisions from Tuesday's elections were Mayor Bill Saffo and Council Member Laura Padgett, both favor the convention center. Mayor Saffo says he supports the project as long as the room occupancy tax -- not property taxes -- can pay for it. Padgett says she hoped the convention center project would be further along by now, but she says the city is moving forward with contracts to begin the foundation. As for support from the people of Wilmington, Padgett says Tuesday's results speak for themselves. Padgett said, "Looking at the election and the previous two or three elections, people continue to vote for members of council that are in favor of the convention center." The city is holding a convention center job seminar on Friday for small, minority and women-owned businesses. It will be held at City Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

You get the government that

You get the government that you deserve...I remember in the past studies have shown that convention centers in other cities have consistantly lost money---now I'm hearing that they MAKE money for the city. I just hope the sewers don't back up while our out-of-town visitors are here.

Convention Center Seizures

Study after study has shown that most conventions centers nationwide have seen their buisness evaporate, while new centers and expansions are delivering very little in terms of attendance and activity. The huge bill WILL be passed along to you and YOUR children down the road. Bill Saffo will CONTINUE to enjoy the good life in Lanfall and Laura Padgett will probably replace Thomas Wright in Raleigh to continue taxing and spending your money for your own good. Who is to blame? The 80 plus thousand residents that didn't vote and the 8 to 9 thousand that did vote these people back into office.

JUST WHAT WE NEED

THIS IS WHAT WE NEED. A CONVENTION CENTER THAT WILL COST TAX PAYERS A CLEAR FORTUNE....THE CITY IS ALREADY IN A DEFICITE AND WE ARE GOING TO GO FURTHER IN THE HOLE. HOPE THOSE WHO VOTED FOR SAFFO HAVE DEEP POCKETS....OH YES, SORRY, GUESS IT ONLY EFFECTS US MIDDLE AND LOWER INCOME FAMILIES!

???????

"The city is holding a convention center job seminar on Friday for small, minority and women-owned businesses." So successful white males need not apply?

??????

"So successful white males need not apply?" If white males own a small business, they are welcome. If they're running a big business, that would be at best, a waste of time. At worst, *stupid*.

"If white males own a small business, they are welcome. If they're running a big business, that would be at best, a waste of time. At worst, *stupid*." Buisnesses don't have to be big to be successful. My point was, minority and women-owned small buisnesses will have and instant advantage over white males with small buisness. Discrimination based on the color of your skin and gender is *stupid*, but it's ok if only used against white males.
