Children with a police escort took over a Wilmington Wal-Mart today to do their Christmas shopping. The Wilmington police department held its annual Santa cop program this morning. Each year officers pair up with a child who without their help may not have a very merry Christmas. 52 kids teamed up with a cop and strolled the aisles looking for toys and clothes. Both kids and cops say the program means a lot. “Happy really happy, I felt like screaming one time” said Quione Davis. Officer James D. Smith said “It feels good. I want to bond with him let him know officers are your friend. I want to make sure this is something he can remember and go back and tell his friends and family.” Each year the police department tries to extend the program to help even more kids in the community.
