School bus rear ends another bus

It was a bumpy ride home for some New Hanover County school middle school students Friday. Two school busses transporting children from Myrtle Grove Middle School got in an accident, with each other. It happened Friday afternoon at Carolina Beach Road and Silva Terra. Bus 330 slowed down for a stoplight, but bus 331 did not stop, until it rear-ended bus 330. No one suffered major injuries, but several students were shaken up with head bumps, and stiff necks. One parent says his son developed breathing problems. Some parents believe there should be a better way to inform them when school bus accidents happen. “I would love to see some sort of system put in place that would notify parents when something like this does happen so we know more up front if there is something to worry about of if we can all take a deep breath,” said parent Cynthia Livingood. Students were transferred onto different busses once highway patrol finished their initial investigation. That lengthy process irritated a few parents as well.

Why no seatbelts?!!!

This is another reason why I wish that school busses had seatbelts. It baffles me that children have to ride in boosters or wear seatbelts in cars depending on their age/weight/height and school busses are not even equipped with a simple lap belt. A simple strap over their laps could have prevented these head bumps and stiff necks.
