LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) -- Just a few hours ago searchers found the body of a man who went missing yesterday in Lake Waccamaw. Stewart Young, 47, of Bladenboro drowned while rescuing one of his four children from the water. He saved the child, but Young never made it back up to his family's pontoon boat.
Several agencies took part in the two-day search.
"It's always a positive thing to have multiple agencies come together for a unified purpose to help bring closures to families," Lake Waccamaw superintendent Chris Helms said. "Of course it's tragic that something like this does occur, but it is nice to have the support of the agencies and the community."
Lake Waccamaw officials say drownings are something they deal with on a yearly basis.
