WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- In between graduation ceremonies at Trask Coliseum, the New Hanover County School Board met Saturday to talk about the ongoing search for a new superintendent.
The board has several candidates lined up for interviews on four dates in the upcoming month, the latest of which being July 9. That means a decision will not be made until at least then. The board had hoped to make a final decision by June 30.
In the meantime, the board will talk about appointing an interim superintendent in a closed session this Wednesday. They will decide whether to appoint someone from within the school system or to hire an interim from elsewhere in the state.
Current superintendent Al Lerch retires June 30.
