Selling on Craigslist becoming more common

Desperate times call for desperate measures. In this case, people are selling items with sentimental value, just to get some extra cash. For aspiring musician Drew Naska, parting with his instruments isn't easy. “Instruments are not just instruments if you are a musician. They are very iconic." But like many people struggling to make ends meet, Naska is looking to make some extra cash, and fast. "I go on Craigslist, it's free to put on, and it meets a big crowd." Naska said he has had to mark some vintage instruments for hundreds less than they're worth, because many people don't have the money to pay full price. He is not alone. The Fitzgeralds have five children and are facing a money crunch. They are selling the only things that get them out of the house to enjoy time with each other. Jean Fitzgerald is trying to sell her motorcycle, along with her husband’s bike, which they say they love dearly. "Well I think of the stress it's putting on our family, financially, I would prefer to sell my little toy, just to sacrifice for the family, " said Jean. For sale listings on Craigslist have soared 70 percent since July, 2007. The number of listings alone has more than doubled since this past March. The Fitzgeralds hope the sale of their bikes will help ease some stress as we head into the holiday season. Some people listing items on Craigslist have had to lower the price more and more each day it is posted, just to get noticed and hopefully sold.
