Hundreds of people in Wilmington had a sweet start to their weekend Friday night as the Seventh Annual Chocolate Festival kicked off with a gala at the New Hanover County Senior Center. Attendees got to sample what will be featured at this weekend's festival, which raises money for the senior center. The gala featured more than just chocolate; there was also food, drinks, live music and exhibitors showcasing clothing, jewelry, and more Chocolate Festival Coordinator Gayle Ginsberg said, "I just want everyone to have a really, really good time and I want our exhibitors to be happy. That's the most important thing to me when it gets down to it, that the exhibitors have a successful show." Organizers hope to top the $25,000 raised last year. The Chocolate Festival will be at the senior center Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00 and Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00. Tickets are $8 at the door.

chocolate festival

my husband, daughter and her daughter went thinking there was a free admission, but when we tried to get in they told us to go back out to the lobby to buy tickets. the tickets were 8.00 apiece for us three adults and i think there was a small charge for our granddaughter. we could not afford to spend 24.00 plus dollars just to get in in addition to purchasing the items. i know this is a good cause and it raises money for the center, but we were disappointed at the cost just to get in. we would have gladly bought the chocolates if we could have gotten in for free.

Chocolate Festival

This was my first year at the Chocolate Festival and I loved the concept! I would have loved to have been able to participate in all the activities but it was entirely too crowded, however wonderfully marketed, obviously! Just a suggestion; organizers should look into a larger facility for next year, as that would increase the exhibitors' success. Personally I felt pressured to bypass some events/vendors or be trampled by the crowds. I am sure it will continue to grow, it just needs more room to do so. I wish all of those involved the best of luck and hopefully you'll have a larger place next year.
