Settlement reached in Charlotte Taser death

CHARLOTTE -- The city of Charlotte has reached an out-of-court settlement with the family of a 17-year-old grocery store employee who died after being shocked with a Taser. Multiple media outlets report that attorney Ken Harris announced the agreement Tuesday. Harris represented the family of Darryl Turner in a lawsuit against the city. Turner worked at the store but had refused to leave after being asked by the manager. Police say Officer Jerry Dawson fired his Taser two times, once for 37 seconds. Dawson was suspended after a review board found he was justified in using the Taser, but his prolonged use of the weapon was not. Harris would not disclose the settlement amount.
