Several major retail chains are closing their doors.
The Sharper Image at Mayfaire is one of 96 company locations closing its doors.
Deep discounts are luring in shoppers, even though many admit, they've tightened their purse strings. Shoppers say they're enticed to spend more than they otherwise would have.
Shopper Sharon Galioto said, "I can get in a store and come home with five or six things instead of one."
"I wouldn't have bought a new chair if it wasn't on sale for such a low price," said Joel Cashier.
But buyer beware, if you take advantage of liquidation sales, read the fine print. The Sharper Image, for example, has a list of conditions:
- All store closing purchases are final
- Returns won't even be accepted at locations staying open.
- Gift cards will only be honored at stores staying open, and online.
So ask about a store's policy before stocking up.
The Sharper Image is keeping 88 stores open across the country. It filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in February citing declining sales, three straight years of losses, and lawsuits involving its Ionic Breeze air purifiers.
Ann Taylor and Foot Locker are also closing stores across the country during restructuring plans, but the Wilmington locations for those stores will stay open, at least for now.
