Sharks play tonight for spot in playoffs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Wilmington Sharks will travel to Morehead City tonight for a doubleheader against the Marlins starting at 6:05 p.m. If the Sharks wins both games, they will host the first round of the playoffs in Wilmington on Thursday. Thursday's game will begin at 7:05 p.m. ..

Wilmington defeated Columbia 2-0 and 8-0 in a doubleheader in Wilmington yesterday to move into a tie with the Asheboro Copperheads for the eighth and final Pettit Cup Playoffs spot. Asheboro's regular season ended with a victory last night over Fayetteville. The Copperheads finish the regular season with a record of 27-28. Wilmington currently has a record of 26-27. Here are the various playoff scenarios:

-If the Sharks lose both games this evening at Morehead City, they are out of the playoffs.
-If the Sharks win both games, they are in the playoffs, which begin Wednesday. Wilmington would host a home playoff game at Buck Hardee Field Thursday.
-If the Sharks split the doubleheader, they are scheduled to resume play against the Outer Banks Daredevils in a suspended game tied at 2 in the sixth inning. This would take place Tuesday at Buck Hardee Field. They will play Outer Banks tomorrow at Wilmington between 1 and 3 p.m. Exact time is unknown.

If the Sharks win that game, they make the playoffs. If they lose, they do not.
