New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged attempted child abduction that occurred yesterday in the area of Masonboro Loop Road and Trails End Road.
A 14-year old female reported an older model green Ford Bronco pulled up to her as she was walking home from her bus stop. The passenger of the vehicle offered the female a ride and began to be persistent when the ride was denied. The female continued her walk home and the vehicle left the area traveling south on Masonboro Loop Road. The male passenger is described as a white male, approximately 25-30 years of age with short blonde hair. The male was wearing a camouflage hat, white shirt and a camouflage coat.
Once notified this morning, School Resource Officers and Detectives collected the information and will continue to investigate this incident. Sheriff McMahon has increased safety measures with extra personnel patrolling this area. “We will continue to work closely with school administration to ensure the safety of all children,” said McMahon.
Earlier this afternoon, school administration activated the Alert Now notification system to alert parents of children who attend Myrtle Grove Middle School and Parsley Elementary School.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detectives at (910) 798-4498.

Concerned
Wait was the man ever caught cuz a lot ofmy friends are going to myrtle grove for 8th grade
Hopefully not another waste of taxpayer dollars
Strange how the story implies that this incident occurred one afternoon, yet authorities were not notified until the following morning. Why the delay? I hope this is not another false report filed by a youngster trying to cover their tracks after doing something or being somewhere they knew was off limits.

i cant belive that something like this could happen to someone that goes to my school.
bus stops
Hi. My 4th grader gets off the bus on Cherokee trail, which is only a few blocks from Trails End. We are in the Bellamy district. I feel that the alert now calls should have included Bellamy and Ashley High Schools as there are many children in this area that go to those schools. Good luck with the investigation.
Codington
Parents of Codington should have been notified as well, as there are plenty of Codington children that live in this area as well.

That description descrides a rape suspect in the Myrtle Beach area. The law enforcement just said this past week, they think he has resurfaced again.
I appreciated being
I appreciated being contacted by the school of this incident, but was shocked that my 13 YO daughter, who attends MGM, was not informed at school about this. I feel that this could have been addressed in a mature way, not to cause panic, but to make the students aware and to be cautious.

I was out of town on
I was out of town on business and feel that the school did not do their part in informing the students of the incident. Information is a strong weapon and they could have asked if there were similar incidents that other children had not reported. If they are not going to bother telling the students, calling the parents who may be working or unable to be home is only doing half the job.
