Sheriff Hewett not at scheduled testimony

Hewitt Corrupt? Just like the corrupt Oak Island Police. An obese Police Sergeant who is shot by a kid's BB gun tampers with the evidence and "doctors" his wound so that it will look more serious. The O.I.P.D. and D.A. Gore do nothing. The S.B.I and one brave (now former) O.I.P.D. Narcotics Detective present evidence which shows that the O.I.P.D. is corrupt and the D.A. refuses to do anything.
It looks like Hewitt may be corrupt but why go after him and not other crooked cops too?
There must be a political reason that the D.A. is now going after Hewiit. What is in it for the D.A. Does Hewiit know something about Gore's personal life that could be damaging?

The Feds asking the deputies how thy like the sheriff is not why they are there.This is only the start of a very long process.If anyone has something to hide be worried. Your friend will tell them. Ask Mike Vick.

After reading some of these comments, I realize that the truth will come out. How hard is it to apologize and ask forgiveness than to just keep on lying, knowing that you will be found out. (You reap what you sow in this lifetime) all us humans do.
But Ronald, what are you going to do when the truth does come out and all those folks that gave to your campaigns and more disturbingly YOUR DEFENSE funds are sorely disappointed in you? Are you going to give them their money back?
For us "Home Folks" we will ban together and use that number posted on this website to tell the truth and protect our "Hometown" because it is just that. Our "Hometown" I realize that I should have voted for Jerry Dove in the beginning. He had a whole lot more experience than you did, unfortuantely not as many relatives.

My one big question, why have we not been told what the investigation is about.
What does the SBI and Brunswick County have to hide.
Maybe if we knew what all this was about we could support the Sheriff. How can I support something if I don't know what it there is to support.
If anyone in the genereal public was to be investigated I am sure the subject would be printed in the papers or shown on the news.
I believe Law Enforcement get a bad rap most of the time, unfortunately it is the line of work. Most do it for the love of the job, because let's face it the pay sucks.
I have lived in Brunswick county for only 3 years, I have seen some things that make you wonder what the police is doing, but having said that most criminals end up getting caught eventually, even when they do work in Law Enforcement.

Did anyone read the beacon a couple weeks ago? The article submitted by Peggy Burns of Ash? Well, that's my sister...her house was robbed by a CRACK head that had chewed his finger tips off while she was in critical condition up in Duke hospital and guess what??? HE's been released..yea people he's walking around your find Brunswick County.. what a great sheriff!!!! You all better think twice, God works in mysterious ways, I hope they throw the book at him!!!!

I haven't been keeping up with the comment blogs, "news", opinions, "facts" from those who think they have them, slandering, gossip, etc. I was born and raised in Brunswick County for over 30 years and recently moved. My brother, who is in law enforcement, told me to look up the website for the local Wilmington news channels and see what they had to say about Ronald. I have spent the last couple of hours going through videos, articles & blogs and have come to the conclusion that "no one really knows" the whole story, the true facts or can post a blog without correcting someone else's, getting off point, using profanity or address what is really going on. I was truly disappointed at some of the entries. I don't know what started this investigation, I don't know how it will end or what will happen in between and neither does anyone else.
I can say that for many years Ronald has been re-elected to his office because the "majority" of Brunswick County agreed that's what they wanted. His history goes back a long time with many of us and our families.
I can say for myself that I hope and pray that whatever the outcome that things are made right for all parties involved and justice is served for those that have done wrong or the accusers to be brought to justice if need be. This entire case could have been brought on by one person with one thought of revenge. No one's really commented on that idea. Remember, the law states your'e innocent until proven guilty. I'm not going to predict the verdict, I will say that I and my entire family in Brunswick and surrounding counties and states support him and are praying for him. Woe unto those who speak ill of a man who is proven innocent or deliberately throw stumbling blocks whichever the case may be! Ronald, good luck and may God watch over you and your family - whatever the outcome.

I have sat back and watched as many good people have came and gone from the current Brunswick County Sheriff's Office. They are good officers everywhere. But I believe it is time for a change in Brunswick County. I wish no harm on the Sheriff, but the Sheriff has a good family and has worked hard. Its time for him to enjoy it. And as far as ANY of the Millers taking his place - if there is a crooked person in this county or columbus there last name is MILLER. Thats all folks.

In reference to the matter at hand, this rings very true.

The question is NOT whether or not the sheriff is guilty, but rather why is he trying to hide the investigation and acting ignorant.

Anyone that has any criminal justice knowledge knows that he is lying. Reason being, that he knows good and well what is being investigated. The fact that it would be illegal to subpeona someone with out reason. To investigate the subject under investigation must be informed of what is being investigated and why it is being investigated. It's illegal and otherwise fraudulent and can not stand up in a U.S. court of law. In addition, most courts will not even prosecute a case if the DA doesn't almost know it can win. Also any law enforcement officer who is convicted of a crime pertaining to their job, must release all records of any investigations, and such investigations must be re-investigated. The fact that, the federal government (who knows this) is still pressing foward, should raise some red flags. Given the overwhelming load that the judicial system has on it, makes it very suspicious as to why it would go after one of their own. Again not saying that he is guilty or innocent. Know this, IF he is innocent, may he go free, if not may he pay the same price anyone else would have to pay.

Honestly - I think this whole situation is just what the Sheriff needs to jolt him into reality. For too long he has done exactly what he wants to do - legal or illegal. People and lives have been hurt in the process. Sometimes it takes a while for justice to come along - but eventually it does.

As far as his "campaign" for defense funds - the people of Brunswick County should find this offensive that he is asking county citizens to help him pay for his defense. What a shame - haven't the citizens paid him enough over the years?

What is the status of this story? It seems to be fading away. I am curious as to why the media hasn't obtained an on camera TV interview with the Sheriff concerning this story. I have alot of respect for the Sheriff, but he has never turned away from a camera before and if he truly doesn't know what this investigation is about, he shouldn't have any problem granting some type of interview.. On the other hand, if he does know what's going on as it has been suggested, he will probably say that on his attorney's advice, he cannot discuss it. The voting taxpayers of Brunswick County deserve to hear it directly from the Sheriff. Not in a carefully prepared written statement.

It is safe to assume that no one here is telling their correct name and no one will. So we should leave all the personal attacks aside if we are going to speak up about what we have seen for the last 12 years.
I know everyone is worried about loosing their job if they are found out but people we need to tell the truth. Don’t let this continue to go on. We have a chance to change things and correct the things we have done wrong. Most importantly we need to do what is best for our community

I have been made aware that someone has been using my name and posting comments. Rest assured it is not me posting them. If I post one I will put my name on it. I have also been told of some other people posting some rather nasty statements. I have never struck a female unless it was buisness. End of story. As far as the Sheriff's dept. goes I have nothing but the utmost respect for the men and women that wear a badge in that county. If the Sheriff is guitly it will show up in court, if not it will also come to light. In the meantime if your going to post something please do not use my name, nor should anyone assume it is me. I no longer reside in Brunswick nor do I plan on living there again. I don't work in Raleigh either. Since this message board has become a forum for past and present Brunswick LEO's, I hope those of you who testify before the Federal Grand Jury will tell us what you said. Those proceedings are closed to the press. But unless a specific gag order is imposed by the judge, witnesses are free to tell what they were asked and what they said. Meanwhile, would any of you like to shed light on some other lingering questions about the sheriff's past? Like his alleged "fall from the tree stand"? Wonder what former Chief Deputy Charlie Miller could tell us about that day...

This is funny. A bunch of adults sitting around and talking about stuff that has nothing to do with the story that was about or intended to be about. I am in Law Enforcement and I use spell check. Does it really matter, if the post is spelled right or not. I have sat here and stayed with all the post and have not said anything. One because I know the family. I am not here to say if he did anything wrong or that he was a great guy. I do know that he has never wronged me. But to each his/her own. Some of the post are on point and make valid points. I wonder if this drug bust that just happened in Longwood, which has been under investigation for 5 years had anything to do with this situation? It was under investigation for 5 years. Were they planning to wait for the next election to finally bring this out into the open and use it to make Hewett look good so he could be re-elected, but decided to go ahead and use it now instead? It is really weird how things like this always seem to happen when someone needs to divert the attention from themselves to something else. I mean, who in their right mind doesn't know the reputation of the Quarters area in Longwood? Is this supposed to be some kind of big secret? I wonder how many in the judicial system in our area are also involved with these drug dealers. Maybe once they go to court they will spill their guts and tell all.
