Fifth graders at Belville Elementary got a surprise visit from a solider they'd been supporting in Iraq. This weekend, Leroy Cain returned home after a 15-month deployment in Iraq. Today, Cain stopped by his son Chris’ fifth-grade class at Belville Elementary to show his appreciation. While Leroy was overseas, Chris and his classmates wrote letters to show their gratitude and support. Leroy says the words from home helped lift the spirit of his entire troop while they were thousands of miles from. “It's good to get anything while you're over there, it brings up your morale, keeps you motivated.” Chris added, “It felt kind of good because my dad liked the letters.” Leroy compared looking forward to his leave, to the end of school, which is just two days away. And just like the kids will return to school, Leroy has decided to return to service. He will announce his retirement from the Wilmington Police Department to pursue a full-time career with the Army.
