South Carolina could lose Republican delegates for moving primary

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican Party leaders today recommended punishing South Carolina and four other states for moving their nominating contests up. Leaders proposing removing half of the delegates for South Carolina, New Hampshire, Florida, Michigan and Wyoming. South Carolina Republicans are considering legal action to avoid the penalty. Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan says it's important to enforce party rules. South Carolina plans to hold its GOP presidential primary January 19th. State GOP Chairman Katon Dawson says he's considering legal action if the state is penalized 23 delegates to next year's Republican national convention.
