Sea Dawgs announce open tryout

Story body

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The NBA may be locked out, but there will be professional basketball in Wilmington this winter, and you have a chance to make the team.

The Wilmington Sea Dawgs will hold open tryouts for the 2012 season on Saturday, December 17. The audition runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Wilmington Family YMCA. Interested players may arrive at the gym as early as 9:30 a.m.

Candidates must be 18 years of age with a high school degree or equivalent. Players should wear appropriate shoes and clothing and come ready to compete. Registration forms will be available onsite or online.

"We hope to see many local players attend, as we believe there is a lot of basketball talent in the region," Sea Dawgs co-owner Pete Gratale said.

All registrations will be taken on-site prior to the start of the tryout at a charge of $10. All registration fees are non-refundable and payable by cash or money order. Please be advised that participation in the open tryouts may jeopardize a player's NCAA eligibility. If you have any question about NCAA eligibility, please consult with your current basketball coach.

For more information or to receive an application by e-mail contact the Wilmington Sea Dawgs at (910) 791-6523, or visit the Sea Dawgs website.

If the NBA lockout continues

these teams may have quite a bit of cable air time to fill. Maybe that will open the doors to curling competition on cable as well.

OR, they could just play films of Rendleman as a player.
