The cheerleaders from the Pee Wee Coastal Cowboys have qualified for the national championship in early December. The local squad is asking for help from the community to raise funds for their upcoming trip to Florida. Full story...

Virginia defeated UNCW on Sunday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. Seahawk David Sizemore scored the first goal of the game midway through the first half to give UNCW the lead. Virginia scored an equalizer just before the break. The Cavaliers went onto score twice in the second half to win 3-1 over UNC Wilmington. Full story...

Freshman midfielder Kalvin Kromer and junior midfielder Daniel Escobar each scored a goal in the second half to lead UNCW to a 2-0 victory over Bucknell University in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening. The referees had to stop Wednesday's basketball game at Cape Fear Community College due to a fight that broke out right before halftime between the Louisburg men's basketball team and CFCC. There weren't any scuffles at UNCW. The Seahawk women's basketball team did beat Campbell though. UNCW is now 2-0 on the season. Full story...

We knew it was just a matter of time. David Irving is back in the USL Pro Soccer League, On Wednesday he was named the head coach of the new Tulsa franchise. Irving had been the face of the Wilmington Hammerheads for more than a decade until he stepped down this summer. Full story...

A fair number of high school basketball teams opened the season on Tuesday night. We had game action involving Ashley, Cape Fear Academy and Wilmington Christian Academy. In fact Ashley boys head basketball coach Webster Guthrie picked up a win in his first game as the head coach of the Screaming Eagles. In a game that more often resembled a boxing match than a basketball game with its ebb and flow, UNCW answered UNCG on nearly every occasion in an entertaining 84-72 men’s basketball victory Tuesday night at the Greensboro Coliseum to deliver Kevin Keatts his first win as the Seahawks’ head coach.
