Boxing Commission Overturns Donnell Holmes Boxing Decision

Story body

Watch the interview with Donnell Holmes
Earlier this month WWAY reported the outcome of Ivanhoe native Donnell Holmes' fight versus Brian Minto. The WBO-NABO heavyweight title fight was stopped after the fourth round when Minto suffered a cut above his left eye. Minto was awarded the victory in a controversial decision. Two weeks after the bout the Pennsylvania Boxing Commission has now ruled the outcome to be a "no contest" after a video review citing that there's no evidence of a headbutt and Minto's cut appears to have come from a legitamate punch from Holmes. Holmes' pro record now returns to 31-0 with 27 knockouts. Originally the judges ruled in Minto's favor via a four round technical decision after a ruled accidental headbutt caused a cut that the ringside physician deemed serious enough to stop the fight. Minto told the ringside doctor that his vision was blurry after the fourth frame due to the gash and the fight went to the scorecards. Minto won via scores of 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37. Holmes tells WWAY that Minto knows he was fortunate to have the fight ruled a "no contest" because everyone who attended the fight knows Holmes was about to win prior to the cut. At this time Holmes does not know who he will fight next. Based on this outcome it could be Holmes-Minto II in the not too distant future. Holmes would welcome the opportunity. Minto would likely not be quick to accept a rematch. Donnell Holmes used to train as an amateur in Wilmington when he was a member of the City of Wilmington Boxing Team. Holmes is 36 years old. He made his pro debut at the Wilmington Hilton in 2003. He's currently ranked #11 by the WBO and # 13 by the WBC.

Boxer Donnell Holmes vs Brian Minto Overturned Decision

An overturned decision of no-contest is about as good as it gets in this case. At least the no-contest decision continues the 31-0 record for Holmes. So I guess it's "Congratulations, Donnell from your fans in Riegelwood!"
