Story body

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- East Bladen girls basketball coach Patty Evers told WWAY in July she expected Courtney Melvin to announce her college intention in early August. It turns out Evers was correct. Melvin made a verbal commitment to East Carolina University Tuesday night.

Bladen County native and East Bladen alum Ann Hancock is now an assistant basketball coach at ECU. She served as head coach of the UNCW women's team until four months ago.

Melvin is a rising senior at East Bladen. She considered UNC Greensboro, Old Dominion and Wake Forest among other schools as well.

Melvin led East Bladen with 24 points and 12 rebounds a game last season in helping the Eagles to a 29-1 record. The Eagles lost to Salisbury in the state 2-A finals.

Courtney Melvin will be featured on this weekend's Coach's Corner. We caught up with Courtney shortly after she made her verbal commitment. Check it out!! That'll be Sunday, August 8th at 11:30am on WWAY.
