St. Patrick's Day Memorial Run

READ MORE: St. Patrick's Day Memorial Run
Many people spent the weekend celebrating not only Saint Patrick's day, but also life. Thousands hit the beach to run in a memorial race now in its fourth year. The event honors Carolina Beach native Steve Haydu who was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 32 in 2004. Steve eventually lost his battle with cancer, but his memory lives on through The Steve Haydu Saint Patrick's Day Lo-tide Run. More than one thousand people participated in the 5K race Saturday to help raise money to support local cancer patients. The event pulled in twenty-five thousand dollars to donate to three individuals to help their fight against cancer, like beneficiary Emily Karnes. Even though the race dealt with a serious subject, everyone who joined in the Saint Patrick's day race left the beach with high spirits.
