Students learning how to help the environment

Some local kids are looking to the past, in hopes of helping the environment in the future. Dozens of students from Saint Mary's Catholic School toured Wilmington's historic Bellamy Mansion for a lesson in going green. The students are learning how to conserve energy and reduce their impact on the environment. The Bellamy’s lived during much simpler time - with no electricity, or running water. Students are now finding ways to conserve in their own homes. Kevin Murphy, a fifth grade teacher at Saint Mary’s said, "Lots of them had ideas of what they could do at their own house like changing their light bulbs or turning off the air condition and opening the windows." Saint Mary’s fifth grader, Emilia Sywolski said, "I really want to make sure I turn off my lights when I go to bed, and turn off my computer. I'm really trying to do that." Each student is being encouraged to recycle and collect rain water to reuse.
