Brunswick County Commissioners are expected to give the go ahead on a new sheriff's department sub-station in Leland.
The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office is expected to open a sub-station in the Leland development, Brunswick Forest. The sheriff's department said a sub-station in Leland will better serve the northern part of the county.
Another sub-station opened in Calabash back in May.
Brunswick Forest is offering the property at a lease of only a dollar a year. The county manager said the cost of utilities and insurance will be paid out of drug seizure money.
Commissioners will vote on the lease agreement Monday night.

Brunswick County Sheriff Sub-station in Brunswick Forest
I am thankful there will be a sub-station in the northern part of the county. I live in Town Creek. Has any one ever had to wait 45 min. for a deputy to get your home after calling 911 because the deputy was in the southern part of the county? Not fun!!!
duplication of services
Why build this so close to Leland who has a police department?
Bolivia is only a 30 minute ride down route 17 now.
Why are we expanding when the economy is bad and we should be cutting costs?
I guess if we build the substation then all those deputies that live in Leland won't need to drive their cars home from work, they can park them at the substation and save taxpayers the gas and maintenance expense.
substation boondoggle
"The county manager said the cost of utilities and insurance will be paid out of drug seizure money."
Who will pay to build the building?
And where is all this drug money coming from? Don't they have a helicopter to pay for?
By the state constitution the drug money is to go to the school system. Our kids.
Cheaper if all the homeowners just buy guns and protect their own stuff. Let Brunswick Forest, Waterford, and Magnolia Greens hire their own security guards if they are that scared.

that is a ignorant way to think. it is a step in the right direction for the sherriff's department to have a sub station in leland. it is not just for brunswick forrest, magnolia greens and waterford it is for the benefit of the entire area. it keeps deputies in the area, an office you can go to without driving all the way to bolivia, and etc... sounds like you are the one scared to have them there.
