Sunday's walk to help end hunger

With many food pantries struggling to keep their shelves full, some folks are trying to do their part to help end hunger. Participants in the 29th New Hanover County Stop Hunger Walk trekked around Greenfield Lake Sunday. Although the walk was not supposed to start until 2:00 p.m., many walkers got an early start. Organizers said the Walk for Hunger was rewarding. Crop Walk chairperson, Jim Sinclair said, “It gives me a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I am helping those in need here in New Hanover County and throughout the world that are plagued by hunger problems.” Sinclair said the turnout was the largest he has seen in nearly twenty years. Participants also helped by donating canned goods. Money from the event will go to help five local charities, including the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
