Support for offshore drilling waning in NC

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is apparently affecting the way North Carolinians think about drilling of our coast.

Last month Raleigh-based Public Policy Polling found 61 percent of voters supported the idea of offshore drilling while only 26 percent opposed it. Now, though, support has declined to 47 percent with 38 percent of voters against it.

This is the first time PPP has ever found less than majority support for drilling in the state. Interestingly voters in eastern North Carolina support drilling at a rate higher than the rest of the state.
