Survey: Half of high school students drank alcohol in last 30 days

WILMINGTON -- It's not news parents want to hear, but in a recent survey, nearly half of all New Hanover County high school students admitted to drinking alcohol in the past 30 days. That's why the Coastal Horizons Center is holding a town hall meeting Thursday night to talk about underage drinking prevention. Parents, teachers and teens will be educated about the impact underage drinking has on the community. The meeting runs from 6:30 until 8 p.m. in the old courthouse assembly room at 24 North Third Street in downtown Wilmington.

Im 16 party every weekend...
I think they were all at Chuck E Cheese!
That's not surprising; in my high school in Columbus County the percentage was probably even higher. Just because someone drinks in high school does not mean they are going to become an alcoholic. My first drink was in high school and i drank very heavily my first couple of years in college. However,I'm not an alcoholic and I'm now a senior at UNCW and I'll graduate in December with my B.A. in English.
RIGHT ON WILM MAN!!!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!
Just half?? If I went to school nowadays I would drink every day. Bruce Springsteen had a song and a line in it was "I learned more from a three minute record, Baby, then I ever learned in school". School is nothing more than an overpriced babysitting service.
Overpriced babysitting service??? Exactly how much do you pay for your children to go to school? You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Kids today are getting scholarships all the time for academics. If you think you can do a better job you should homeschool your children....or better yet get a job as a teacher and show us all how it is suppose to be done
