Internet sweepstakes cafés could be coming to Burgaw. Tuesday the town commission approved adding the businesses to Burgaw's list of permitted uses. Commissioner John Wharton suggested waiting until a couple of lawsuits challenging internet sweepstakes in North Carolina make it through the appeals process, but the town attorney said commissioners had to update their ordinance because currently the cafes are legal. "If it's subsequently determined by a court to not be a legal use, then we turn around and we subsequently amend our ordinance to take that use out, because it's no longer a legal use," said Town Attorney Robert Kenan. Commissioners decided that anyone who wants to open an internet cafe in Burgaw would have to apply for a conditional use permit.
