We've seen and heard all about Southport this month in WWAY’s Cape Fear Pride series, but now you can taste it too. The Taste of Southport offers folks the opportunity to sample food from a handful of the town's chefs. The event is in March, but we've got a preview. Barbara Stockbridge-Davidson, who is a member of the Southport Committee, said, “Southport is putting on their second taste of Southport. Last year they could come, there was lots of chefs that were around the room, people could come and taste their food and it was a big success and everyone liked it. This year we're doing something different; we're having 8 chefs that are going to participate. They're going to be preparing one of their specialties, and they will be demonstrating it this year so it'll be different from last year the audience will be sitting down, they will be learning, and watching, and enjoying the food. Because after the chef demonstrates the food, they will each partake the in the recipe they're preparing. So I think that this year it is going to be a lot more exciting, you're going to see how they prepare it, and you will receive the recipes from them so I think that's a big deal. Second of all, there's about 200 that can come. Tickets are 25 dollars per person; they get a free glass of wine and they can buy more wine if the want it.” The taste of Southport is March 1st. You can buy tickets, starting January, by calling the Southport visitor's center at 457-7927. Proceeds go toward the beautification of downtown Southport.
