A fair number of high school basketball teams opened the season on Tuesday night. We had game action involving Ashley, Cape Fear Academy and Wilmington Christian Academy. In fact Ashley boys head basketball coach Webster Guthrie picked up a win in his first game as the head coach of the Screaming Eagles. The first round of the soccer playoffs concluded on Wednesday night all around the state. The majority of our local squads won. Winners advance to the second round of the state playoffs later this week. Plus, we checked in with former UNCW Seahawk basketball standout Adam Smith on Wednesday. Hoggard, Pender, South Columbus and Wilmington Christian all won state playoff volleyball games on Thursday night. Odds are we'll have at least one state champion from the area this year. On Thursday New Hanover won the boys soccer crown for the Mideastern Conference. We were there for that too. Plus, the Landfall Tradition tees off on Friday. Prior to the event we caught up with UNCW Seahawk golfer Kayla Thompson. The UNCW freshman is a graduate of West Bladen High. Full story...

Keith Rendleman is one of the best basketball players to ever suit up for UNCW. One day his jersey may hang high in the rafters at Trask Coliseum. Rendleman had a knack for slam dunks and rebounds and he's taking his talents to ???. Full story...

The UNCW men's soccer team now has two victories this season over a nationally ranked opponent. The first one occurred last Friday. The Seahawks picked up their second on Tuesday. We showcased two high school soccer games on WWAY on Tuesday as well. Coastal Christian knocked off Cape Fear Academy. Laney edged Ashley. Plus more! Full story...

The Ashley Screaming Eagles overcame an early deficit to take the lead in the second half against White Oak on Monday night, but the Vikings prevailed in the end against Ashley. On Monday we also featured former New Hanover football standout Trevon Brown. The East Carolina freshman wide receiver caught a touchdown pass over the weekend against nationally ranked Virginia Tech. Full story...

One month and three days after we requested an interview, New Hanover County School's Superintendent Dr. Tim Markley agreed to an interview. We started with concerns about Ashley High School and the teacher satisfaction survey that showed most of their teachers were unhappy. Full story...
