Governor Bev Perdue’s announcement last month was a shock to many, sparking an entirely new political ball game in North Carolina. Now that Congressman Mike McIntyre has decided not to run for the governor's office, his seat is no longer up for grabs, which leaves New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield to change his plans.

The University of North Carolina Board of Governors voted today to increase tuition for the next school year by more than nine percent. After news of about a nine-percent increase for the upcoming school year, students at UNCW say these tuition hikes are far from fair.

"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" opened today. It's the first big production shot on the so-called Dream Stage at Screen Gems. The movie features special effects and underwater scenes never before shot in 3-D. Many of them were shot in Wilmington.
