Yesterday was the deadline for Monkey Junction residents and property owners near Southport to return annexation denial petitions. It's unofficial right now, but both communities returned more than 75 percent of the petitions. Only 60 percent were needed to block annexation.

The body of a man missing since Monday has been found near the mouth of the Cape Fear River. The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office helicopter spotted Hill's body around 10:30 a.m.
