West Brunswick boys improve to 10-0 in basketball; BCC men win too

videoThe West Brunswick Trojans sit on top of the Mideastern Conference with a 3-0 league mark and an overall record of 10-0. We checked in with the Trojans on Thursday. West Brunswick beat arch rival South Brunswick by 15 points. We also checked out college action involving Brunswick Community College.

UNCW holds off Liberty in OT

videoUNCW head basketball coach Kevin Keatts said last year's UNCW team would have found a way to lose Wednesday's home game against the Liberty Flames. As it turns out, UNCW won a sloppy, physical game in overtime to improve to 4-3 on the season. The game was highlighted by a handful of dunks. We hope you get a chance to check out the rim rockers on our video. On Wednesday we also showcased BCC men's hoops, UNCW women's basketball and Laney wrestling.

UNCW more than holds their own with Louisville

videoMost basketball fans expected 4th ranked Louisville to pounce on UNCW. Louisville did win on Sunday night, but the game proved to be much closer than expected. In fact UNCW pulled within two points of the Cardinals late in the second half, yet Rick Pitino's club pulled away at the end to win by double digits. UNCW head coach Kevin Keatts is a former assistant coach at Louisville. Check out our game highlights tonight at 11pm on WWAY.

Hoggard and New Hanover both win Monday

videoThe boys basketball team at Hoggard tipped off the new season without any of their football players on Monday due to the fact the Hoggard football team is still alive in the state playoffs. Hoggard still managed to beat Coastal Christian. New Hanover and Dixon also played on Monday. The Dixon boys basketball team is considered to be one of the best 2-A teams in the state, but they were not able to defeat New Hanover. Check out our game highlights.

Fight mars CFCC basketball game; Seahawk women improve to 2-0 with win over Campbell

videoThe referees had to stop Wednesday's basketball game at Cape Fear Community College due to a fight that broke out right before halftime between the Louisburg men's basketball team and CFCC. There weren't any scuffles at UNCW. The Seahawk women's basketball team did beat Campbell though. UNCW is now 2-0 on the season.

First round of boys soccer playoffs complete

videoThe first round of the soccer playoffs concluded on Wednesday night all around the state. The majority of our local squads won. Winners advance to the second round of the state playoffs later this week. Plus, we checked in with former UNCW Seahawk basketball standout Adam Smith on Wednesday. Smith now plays basketball at Virginia Tech.

One area high school team won a state title on Saturday. Several other high school squads had their state title dreams crushed. Congratulations to the Wilmington Christian Acadeny volleyball squad for back to back state titles in volleyball. The Landfall Tradition is over. Wake Forest won with a record setting performance. UNCW won their home regular season finale on Saturday in men's soccer. The Seahawks are back in first place in the CAA. Plus more!

Four local teams advance in volleyball state playoffs; New Hanover wins league soccer title

videoHoggard, Pender, South Columbus and Wilmington Christian all won state playoff volleyball games on Thursday night. Odds are we'll have at least one state champion from the area this year. On Thursday New Hanover won the boys soccer crown for the Mideastern Conference. We were there for that too. Plus, the Landfall Tradition tees off on Friday. Prior to the event we caught up with UNCW Seahawk golfer Kayla Thompson. The UNCW freshman is a graduate of West Bladen High.

Pender volleyball senior now 6th in nation in blocks; Tuesday sports from New Hanover, Laney & Hogggard too

videoPender High senior Briana Pittman moved into 6th place nationally for career blocks in high school volleyball. Pittman now has 622 career blocks. We were in Burgaw on Tuesday when Pender's state playoff game was halted in order to recognize Pittman's achievement. We also had sports coverage from New Hanover, Hoggard and Laney on Tuesday.
