This morning Carolina Beach Town Councilwoman and Mayor Pro-Tem Pat Efird received a very special honor. In fact, it's the highest honor the governor can bestow on a citizen. But the Order of the Long Leaf Pine comes as Efird is also under state investigation.

Darlene Younginer, 55, is charged with communicating threats and assault on a government official. According to the arrest warrant, on November 8, Younginger told Alicia Lachance, "I want to strangle you," "I want to beat the hell out of you," "I want to kill you".
