An apartment fire in Wilmington yesterday left five families homeless. Neighbors say a man passing by noticed the fire from the alley and quickly tried to notify tenants of the danger.

A fire at a Pender County factory this morning left employees cleaning up the damage.
Employees at the Chloride Systems plant in Burgaw got quite a surprise friday morning when they discovered a fire in the production room.

Neighbors rallied together last night to try to save a Leland home. Although the house at the end of Jennifer Court suffered significant fire damage, neighbors were able to help contain the fire and even saved a few puppies.

The SBI has been requested to investigate the cause of the house fire on Starfish Lane. Due to the complete destruction of the house, the cause of the fire remains undetermined. The investigation is ongoing.

A family from Columbus County lost their home along with all of their possessions last week in a house fire. As you saw FIRST ON 3 this weekend, Brian and Amy Smith say they repeatedly called 911 during the fire, but could not get in touch with an operator. Now Columbus County Emergency Management says it is investigating what happened.
