Teenagers charged with murder, victim was Facebook friends with suspects

READ MORE:
RALEIGH -- A judge has refused bond to four teenagers charged in with murder in the death of a missing teen who lists all the suspects as friends on his Facebook and MySpace pages. The state medical examiner determined Thursday the body found in a mobile home in Wake County was that of 18-year-old Matthew Josiah Silliman. He had been missing more than a week. A Wake County judge also set a Dec. 22 court date for 16-year-old Drew Shaw, 18-year-old Ryan Hare and 17-year-old Aadil Khan of Apex; and 17-year-old Allegra Dahlquist of Cary. Comments posted on some of the suspects' social networking sites range from well wishes and concerns about the arrests to an expletive-filled rant against Shaw. Authorities said they haven't determined a motive but evidence indicates the crime is a homicide. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

Four stidents charged with murder

All the facts aren't in yet about this case. A friend of the teen said "the pages should not be misconstrued and seen as threatening" referring to one of the teens charged with murder about his facebook profile. Among his favorite reading materials were Swastika and Mein Kampf. This case reminds me of another high profile case about Peyton Strickland who robbed a young man and then was killed by the police. They were worried that he may have been a real threat because of pictures they had seen either on My Space or Facebook which showed him and some friends posing as thugs and/or gangsters. I can only assume that the parents of these weren't looking at what they were doing on the Internet. When teenagers occupy their time and their minds with violent thoughts and actions then something is really wrong. I would hope that parents would look at what their children are doing on the Internet and if anything looks dark they should talk to their child about it. When teenagers from middle class America turn into cold blooded killers something is very wrong!!!
