There's a lot of construction going on in downtown Wilmington with the new convention center and Cape Fear Community College parking deck. City Hall aka Thalian Hall, looks nice and tranquil on the outside, but inside it's quite another matter. The theatre renovation project has kicked into high gear. It's a glorious, noisy mess. The dirt under the floor is again covered but the old brick shows through in any number of places. Now the space is being filled with scaffolding as they merge the old with the new in this 150 year old structure. "Looking particularly at the timber, the way it's built. This was before the age of steel. It's an amazing structure. I think by now you can tell this is going to be a total makeover from the 150 year old brick and beams on up. Many of the changes, like the new hydraulic lift for the orchestra pit, won't be readily to theatre goers, but others will be such as the new theatre seats, like the Metropolitan Opera." said Thalian Hall Executive Director Tony Rivenbark.
