WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- We're getting more details about the 26-year-old nurse found dead floating in the Cape Fear River Sunday. A couple vacationing from Raleigh told us they were walking along the Riverwalk in Downtown Wilmington Sunday. They looked into the river about 20 feet from the Hilton, and saw Joanne Dacuno floating face down. That was just before 1 p.m. They called 911 as other on-lookers quickly crowded around.
911: New Hanover county 911?
CALLER: Uh, yes. I'd like to report there's a body floating in the water, in the river, just in front of the Hilton area. Between the Hilton...
911: You say there's a body floating in the river?
CALLER: There's a body floating in the river right in front of the Hilton, right across from the Battleship.
911: Can you tell if it's a male/female, white/black?
CALLER: It looks like a white male and they're not alive.
911: Alright, I'll get somebody over there, OK?
Investigators are still trying to find out just how the Greenville woman ended up in the river. The police department says witnesses claim Dacuno was drunk the morning of her death. The toxicology report is not complete.
