WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Graduation is tomorrow for Cape Fear Community College and this weekend for UNCW students, but it's never too early to start thinking about classes for next semester, especially if you're looking to transfer. But transferring credits between the schools may not be as easy as some students think.
UNC Wilmington is less than 10 miles from Cape Fear Community College. The proximity between the two schools allows students to start at the community college level and then move on to the university.
Just because UNCW is close doesn't mean a student's classes from CFCC will transfer to UNCW and count toward graduation. Two state agreements ensure students from Cape Fear the opportunity to go specifically to UNCW or another state school. They must meet requirements like a specific GPA, and they have to be accepted.
Many students misunderstand how their classes transfer to credit at the university level. Some universities and colleges require community college students to retake certain upper level classes when they reach their college or university of choice.
Orientation for transfer students already accepted to UNCW starts next week.
