MIAMI (AP) - Hurricane Danielle has weakened unexpectedly as it churns far out in the Atlantic.
It has dropped back to a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds near 80 mph. But the National Hurricane Center says it could regain strength over the next couple of days.
Plenty of warm water ahead of the storm, and favorable upper level winds are the main reasons why further strengthening is still expected. The storm will take a turn to the north throughout the week, and does not appear to be a threat to the US mainland.
We will be watching this storm very closely here at WWAY along with another system following in its footsteps which will be our next tropical depression any time now.
