WILMINGTON -- Viewer Rick Summers brought us photos of water leaking out of the intake pipes for the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant. The leak spews about 22,000 gallons of water a day into the marsh. City officials say an assessment is scheduled for the end of this month. It will take two to three months to complete. That way, the fluctuations between the winter and spring temperatures will help pinpoint what sections of the pipe are leaking. After that crews will recommend whether the city will need to repair or replace the pipe and how much it will cost to help stop the leaks.
