WILMINGTON (WWAY) – While most people are at home sitting down to a turkey dinner and watching football, many dedicated shoppers decided to use the day to get a little holiday shopping done.
Traditionally, Black Friday is the official kick off for holiday shopping but with more shops open on Thanksgiving, many are taking advantage of a more relaxed environment.
“I don’t have to worry about the crowds, the rush traffic, the trying to get through the store,” says shopper, Linda McClellan. “ I’m just enjoying today while I can.”
Kmart opened its doors at 6 a.m. this morning. This is the eighth year that the store has been open on Thanksgiving and Kmart manager, Barbara Taylor says this is a great opportunity for shoppers to get some great deals before Friday morning.
“There’s a lot of things that people are coming to look for,” says Taylor. “You can tell people are coming to look for bargains.”
Taylor also says the majority of people came earlier in the day. With most people getting the day off from work, many shoppers say they used the time to spend with family and get a little shopping done at the same time.
“We had a good lunch so my sister and I just thought we would goof off and shop,” said shopper, Janet Whitehead.
Though shopping on Thanksgiving offers the convenience of smaller crowds, many say you just can’t beat Black Friday’s deals.
