Two Columbus County accidents, two deaths

Columbus County roads have been deadly of late. Twenty-year-old Clayton McKoy of Clarkton died at the hospital Sunday, after being ejected from an SUV. The vehicle was driven by 23-year-old Cedric McKoy, who was critically injured. They flipped after crossing the CSX railroad tracks on Shaw Road, west of Rieglewood. Neither man was wearing a seat belt. Another man died Saturday from injuries suffered in a crash on Thursday. Seventy-one-year-old Charles Ward of Whiteville was heading east on 74-76 Thursday, when he veered off the road and into a tree between Whiteville and Wilmington.

Two Columbus County Accidents, Two Deaths

The vehicle involved in the accident that occured on Shaw Road in Riegelwood landed in our front yard. All we could think about was the parents (especially the mothers) of the individuals that were in that vehicle since it was Mother's Day. As I stood on my front porch and observed this tragedy all I could do was "Pray". Our hearts go out to the families and I just want them to know that several bystanders did think quick on their feet and did what they were able to do to assist. I know that it's hard for the families, but we just want you to know that there were some angels looking out for your love ones that morning...Take care and remember that God will never leave your side...
