Two Columbus County inmates still at large

COLUMBUS COUNTY -- Two inmates from the Columbus County detention center remain on the loose after escaping over the weekend. A glitch in the new detention center's security system led guards to think all of the doors were locked when in fact one was unlocked -- and three inmates knew it. Major Lewis Hatcher of the Columbus County Sheriff's Office says an internal investigation is being done to determine if there was negligence on anyone's part or if this happened solely because of the computer glitch. Some people who live near the detention center say they can't believe something like this happened. Major Hatcher says the sheriff's office is doing everything possible to keep people safe. He said, "We are going back, doing extra security checks and that kind of thing and we've got people coming to re-evaluate the system and make sure everything is working like it's supposed to." Hatcher says local police departments are also on alert and have officers patrolling, in hopes of catching the two escapees quickly. To report suspicious activity call the Columbus County Sheriff's Office at 642-6551. And after ten p.m. -- or anytime -- call 911.

I surely hope that the citizens of Columbus County don't think that they are safe. Jimmy Edwards has been on the run from probation for over a year. The people of Columbus County should be asking the Sheriff why it took days to release the information that there had been three people escape from the jail?
What are they in jail for? Who are they? People should be made aware of a rapist, murderer, burglar, etc. on the loose, especially if this is a habitual action...so that they can protect themselves.
