This subject is kind of hits

This subject is kind of hits close to home because I actually know the defendants. Believe it or not they are really not bad people and they meant no harm. The acutal bust was a set up; the baltimore police were tipped off. Otherwise, there would have been no merit to stop a car going 7 miles over the speed limit. Balitmore has dropped the charges so that the feds can and will pick up the case. Its really sad because it sucks how the media portrays people that you actually know on a personal level. everyone does something that their not proud of, but jeez these are average people who made an above average mistake. anyway, I just thought you would like to hear from someone who knows what really happened and someone who understands boths sides of the argument.

THANK YOU

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENTS YOU MADE. P, OR AURTHER HICKS, TOOK ALL THE BLAME FOR EVERYTHING BUT CEDRICK IS GOING TO TRIAL ON AUGUST 2ND AND I HAVE TO BE THERE. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT YOUR NAME IS AND HOW YOU KNOW US, BUT ANYWAY, THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT.

I AGREE

I agree ... I know the defendents as well and I just feel that they ALL made some bad choices ... Let's just pray that this will all be okay in the end and thank GOD that no one was seriously hurt during this ordeal.

Traffic Stop???

According to many who post here, a traffic stop is a waste of time and resources. If some of you had your way, these criminals would have never been stopped and the guns never recovered. I wonder if the citizens of Maryland are thankful that their police did their job and removed these criminals and guns off their streets, even if it was by way of a traffic stop.

While I always cheer when criminals get nailed.....

...I'd like to know the specifics of this particular traffic stop. The simple fact is that one of the most abused situations in law enforcement is vehicle searches. The law gives officers a wider latitude in dealing with vehicle searches, but many officers go far beyond what is permitted and hope for the best when they hit court. The fact that this took place in Maryland is of particular interest. I have heard tales of cars from Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia being stopped and searched in MD, NJ and NY for no other reason than the Southeastern tags....and they are specifically looking for firearms. So in this case it was three bad-guys and everything turned out well, but if it was a fishing expedition, it could just as easily have been an innocent, law abiding citizen arrested by an officer who is ignorant of McClure-Volkner, and simply finds an unregistered firearm in violation of Maryland law.

I don't know about

I don't know about that....unless you are being arrested or a K9 has "hit" on your vehicle and officer has no legal right to search your vehicle. Usually the person in the vehicle (driver or owner of the vehicle) gives permission for the vehicle to be searched and then it's all fair game

Of course they have no right....

...but it happens....or I should say that around here, it USED to happen. For awhile it was happening so regularly that I started advising people to lock their vehicle if the officer requested that they accompany him or her to the cruiser. The standard MO was to engage the driver in conversation while checking the license and registration. A backup officer would arrive on scene, casually stroll over and start rummaging through the vehicle. That's frightening on two counts: The illegal search is one, but that pales in comparison to the danger posed to the officer by taking an unsearched person into his vehicle. God help you if your buddy finds something AND the criminal sitting next to you has a weapon but no desire to get arrested. It has been a long time since I've heard of it happening around here, and that may be due to the change of leadership in WPD. Over the past forty years, the largest portion of search and seizure case law revolves around vehicle searches. The courts allow substantially loser standards on vehicles, but it seems that every few years another case arises where an officer has pushed the envelope and the court has to address another legitimate concern for officers or rein them back in. What's particularly disturbing, however, is that several large departments and agencies in the Northeast are using 9/11 as carte blanche to basically search any vehicle they want to under the claim of security concerns, then fishing for weapons or drugs. I'm aware of at least one incident where trucks were proceeding unmolested into the Lincoln Tunnel while the Port Authority police stopped and checked every car with Virginia tags. (That has Bloomberg's nuttiness written all over it.)

Onslow county can go ahead

Onslow county can go ahead and forget about prosecuting at least the two men involved. Both Age and Hicks have numerous felony convictions and it is clear that they were in route to sell the guns somewhere in the northeast (guns, stolen or not, fetch a much higher price there.) It's pretty funny that they were discovered in a traffic stop; surely the defendants thought that with no drugs in the car it was going to be smooth sailing. Some lucky patrolman just got a major respect boost.

Maybe they can turn this

Maybe they can turn this into a Federal thing so they would have to face federal charges
