UNCW men's soccer team to face 49ers of Charlotte

The UNC-Wilmington men's soccer team earned the CAA's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament Sunday with a 1-0 win over Northeastern University. Monday night, the team gathered at Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the tournament selection show. The team's first round opponent will be the Charlotte 49ers. The game will be in Charlotte Thursday night. The winner will advance to face Wake Forest. “My immediate reaction, seeing my alma mater when it came up on the draw, was a bit surprised. I actually thought it might happen. For our players I'm really excited because we knew any team right now would be a difficult opponent and Charlotte certainly will be,” said coach Aidan Heaney. Thursday's game for UNCW will be their first-ever appearance in the men's NCAA tournament.
